जंगल सिर्फ लकड़ी का स्रोत नहीं हैं. वे कार्बन डाई ऑक्साइड को सोखकर पर्यावरण की रक्षा भी करते हैं. इसीलिए दुनिया भर में जंगलों को फिर से उगाने की परियोजनाएं चल रही हैं. लेकिन इन प्रयासों के बावजूद दुनिया भर में जंगल सिमट रहे हैं. बॉस्टन कंसल्टिंग ग्रुप का कहना है कि दुनिया भर के जंगलों का मूल्य 126 ट्रिलियन यूरो है, यानी भारतीय मुद्रा में यह रकम लगभग 10,906,261,093,980,000 रुपये होगी.
